On March 17-18, 2021 the two-day online kick-off meeting, organized by the National Erasmus+ Office in Armenia and dedicated to the presentation of the seven Erasmus+ Capacity Building Higher Education (CBHE) projects with the participation of Armenian HEIs selected under the Call for Proposals 2020, took place.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the meetings were held on Zoom.
At the beginning of the meeting, Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador H.E. Mrs. Andrea Wiktorin, as well as Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Mr. Karen Trchunyan welcomed the participants.
Mrs Tereza Khechoyan, PAARA’s Vice-Rector for Foreign Relations, as a representative of the local coordinator presented the “SMARTI” (Support for Innovative Methodology, Approaches, and Tools for Teaching through the Medium of English in Order to Improve Educational Yield, Sustainability, and Internationalization) Project.
Mrs Tereza Khechoyan spoke about the Project description, aims and objectives, planned activities, expected outcomes and deliverables, sustainability, and the impact on the target.
Particularly, reference was made to the relevance of EMI application, the internationalization through the courses taught in English to be developed in the frame of the project, i.e. the involvement of incoming students and the boosting of the student and teacher mobility as a whole.
The development of transparent, national and international, educational standards and comparable learning tools and teaching standards in accordance with the Bologna criteria, the enhancement of the quality of academic content and staff and students in the Programme Countries through the development of sustainable curricula for teacher training within the Project were also highlighted.
Mr. Khachatur Bezirjyan, Head of PAARA Department of Science, and Ms. Tatevik Movsisyan, Head of the International Cooperation and Foreign Relations Division, attended the meeting as Project team members.
During the meeting, the experienced project teams shared their practice concerning the CB project implementation.
Ms. Lana Karlova, Programme Coordinator of the NEO in Armenia, as well as Programme Officers Ms. Edith Soghomonyan and Ms. Ani Torosyan addressed in detail the issues and potential challenges related to the implementation, operational and financial management of the CBHE grants in Armenia.
Within his presentation, Mr. Ruben Topchyan, Director of National Centre for Professional Education Quality Assurance reflected upon the quality assurance issues in terms of the CB project implementation.
Mr. Samvel Karabekyan, Advisor to the RA ESCS Minister, Erasmus+ Higher Education Reform Expert, presented the RA Draft Law on Education and Research, the new perspectives for HEIs.
